Hold Care
Thanks so much for supporting my small business! I sincerely hope that your new holds enrich your climbing experience, and help you achieve your climbing dreams.
Here are some care suggestions for your new wooden climbing holds:
-
Be careful not to drop them. They are sturdy, but they can still chip and/or break if dropped.
-
Don’t over tighten them. Just tight enough not to spin is enough. Over-tightening wooden holds can lead to cupping and cracking over time.
-
Use only #8 set screws (if your hold has a set screw hole)
-
Keep them out of direct sunlight and the elements (indoor use only)
-
I suggest not stepping on them, because rubber can polish the wood quickly and in some cases build up and be difficult to remove. I like to put a couple of footholds close to my wooden holds and use those in place of “tracking”.
-
Brush them regularly to avoid a buildup of chalk, oils, and skin. Natural bristle brushes are best because they remove oils from your skin.
-
To clean you can wipe them with a DAMP cloth (NOT WET) and allow to dry fully before climbing on them again. If they still feel slick/polished due to a buildup of oils and skin, you can lightly sand the hold surface with 60-120 grit sandpaper following the direction of the grain. Contact me if you need to know what finish your holds came with when they were new.
I hope you enjoy them!!!
